Northwestern Ontario Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting

Whitetail Deer Ontario has the reputation of being a Mecca for big trophy Whitetail Deer. News of gigantic trophy bucks started a frenzy of news stories and magazine articles, and it seemed like all eyes were focused on Ontario's Whitetail Deer hunting opportunities. Whitetail Deer in the north have adapted to colder conditions and have great feeding habitat with abundant water supply, so they are bigger. Big is an understatement. Northwest Ontario's Whitetail Deer have giant thick bodies with muscular legs. Their antlers are also known for being thick and long, with 10-pointers and much larger being very common. Boone and Crockett Bucks are also quite common in this Rainy River District of Northwestern Ontario.

The Deer Population has rebounded nicely now. In 2011 and 2012 unexpected harsh winters, along with large Wolf populations, compromised the deer population in a lot of Northwestern Ontario. From Nestor Falls to Sioux Narrows to Kenora to Dryden & further north, the devastation was most prevalent. Harris Hill Resort is farther south, located only 18 miles from the Minnesota border. The deer population had decreased but stayed quite sustainable, although a lot of Trophy Bucks became nocturnal for their own safety. Some say that many of the northern Whitetails migrated further south to this area during these unusually cold winters and our guests have harvested the benefits. It is not known if any other deer hunting camp in Ontario produces more B&C Whitetails than we do at Harris Hill Resort. Some B & C Trophies include 197, 186, 182 and 167.5 Green score.

Our Deer Hunting Knowledge:

We are not just owners of a resort that offers deer hunting; we are avid deer hunters ourselves. We use our practical knowledge, experience, skills and enthusiasm to ensure our hunts are most enjoyable and successful for our guests. As we have been hunting Whitetail Deer for many years on our own, and since 2002 outfitting Harris Hill Resort, we have a unique perspective from an outfitter's point of view as well as the view of a hunter. We know what our hunting guests want and we pride ourselves on wanting to deliver a quality hunting experience. The fact that our hunting guests enjoy an extremely high success rate, harvest quality Bucks and that we have an extremely high guest return rate, tells us we are doing a great job. We successfully book up from year to year and often have waiting lists.

The low population of people, Coyotes and wolves in our area allows for a high number of deer to be able to reside and mature here safely. There are many areas that are natural feeding ranges for the deer. We have also established deer baits and food plots on exclusive hunting land in close vicinity to Harris Hill Resort. There we have effectively set up our heated hunting shacks, deer hunting blinds and tower stands in strategic locations with Deer sign, to allow for opportunities to harvest that trophy Whitetail Buck without being seen, heard or smelled. As experienced & knowledgeable Whitetail Deer hunting outfitters, we have set up specific stands for hunting. All of the stands are baited for at least a month before hunters arrive, as well as every 2nd day throughout the hunts. To further enhance your chance of having a successful hunt for that trophy buck, we limit the number of deer hunters each season.

Harris Hill Resort produces Boone & Crockett Bucks plus many other Trophy Deer.

Top scoring typical Boone & Crockett scoring 197 green, 179 2/8 dry score
